On 8 July 2025, the Senate approved bill no. 1430, which had already passed through the Chamber of Deputies in March. Bill no. 1430 introduces important protections for workers suffering from oncological, disabling and chronic diseases.
Under this bill, employees with a disability equal to or greater than 74% will be able to request up to 24 months of unpaid, continuous, or split leave. During the period of absence, the worker will retain their job and will not be able to carry out other work activities.
Additionally, at the end of the period of leave, the worker has priority access to agile working, where this is compatible with the tasks that they are required to perform.
Finally, it should be noted that the number of hours of paid leave per year for examinations, therapies and visits has increased to ten hours, for the benefit of all frail patients, compared to the previous eight hours.
