New asbestos handling standards in place for Manitoba employers and workers

- On 4 December 2025, the Manitoba government registered Regulation 108/2025 amending the Workplace Safety and Health Regulation.
- Regulation 108/2025 includes a number of amendments to the Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Regulation aimed at keeping workers safe by clarifying responsibilities and improving training and certification requirements.
- While some amendments took effect on 4 December 2025, the certification and employer registration requirements will take effect on 1 June 2027.
On 4 December 2025, the Manitoba government registered Regulation 108/2025 amending the Workplace Safety and Health Regulation.
The new amendments to the Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Regulation will, among other things:
- Training and Certification: Ensure anyone performing asbestos work has proper training and certification.
- Employer Registration: Require employers who carry on the business of asbestos work to register so Manitobans can easily see who is qualified to carry on the work.
- Inventory and Controls: Require employers and owners to maintain a current asbestos inventory, inspect asbestos-containing material annually, label materials and retain records for 30 years after the date the records are made.
