At a glance

  • Following recent changes to the minimum wage requirements for work permits, the Swedish government received a report which proposes even stricter conditions for labour immigration.
  • Amongst other things, the report addresses the exploitation of labour immigrants.
  • Its purpose is also to enable Sweden to attract more highly skilled and qualified employees.
  • For example, the proposal includes an increase in the minimum wage that is paid to labour immigrants, which in time will align with the median wage in Sweden (in 2023, this was SEK34,200).
  • We will now wait to see how the Swedish government respond to the report.
