On 6 July 2023, the International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention 190, on violence and harassment entered into force in Mexico. This was previously ratified by the Senate on 6 July 2022.

Violence and harassment constitute a violation of human rights, and threaten equal opportunities, therefore they are incompatible with the prerogative of decent work. By ratifying Convention 190, Mexico committed to respecting, promoting and ensuring the right of every individual to a work environment which is free of violence and harassment. This is particularly important in cases relating to gender-based harassment. A comprehensive strategy must be adopted to ensure compliance with the convention.
