Private sector employees may soon receive mandatory transport allowances if proposed amendments to employment law are approved. Under the new legislative initiative by Member of Parliament Jalal Kadhem Al Mahfoodh, private sector workers would be entitled to a minimum of BD15 to help mitigate the rising cost of living. The draft amendment to the 2012 Employment in The Private Sector Law, submitted in early September 2025, would make this payment compulsory unless the company already provides transportation.
