Increased fines for undeclared work and new privileges for labour inspectors

- From 18 December 2025, the Labour Code will be amended to increase fines for companies employing individuals without the required documentation under Romanian employment laws. The penalty will rise to RON40,000 (approximately EUR8,000) per undeclared employee, capped at RON1,000,000 (approximatelyEUR 200,000). Previously, the fine was RON20,000 (approximately EUR4,000) per undeclared employee, with a maximum limit of RON200,000 (approximately EUR40,000).
- Also effective as of 18 December 2025, Labour inspectors holding specific public functions will be required to wear body cameras during inspections. They will have the authority to record workplace activities using audio-video equipment without obtaining consent from the individuals concerned. The labour authority may retain these recordings for up to six months from the date of capture, except in cases where the law provides otherwise.
