- On 20 March 2024 a Private Members Bill, the Employment Relations (Employee Remuneration Disclosure) Amendment Bill, was introduced into Parliament.
- The Bill seeks to create greater transparency in pay and to enable any pay discrimination to be more easily identified and remedied.
- Specifically, the Bill seeks to amend the Employment Relations Act 2000 to protect employees who discuss their remuneration or disclose it to third parties.
- The Bill would render pay secrecy clauses unenforceable; the use of such clauses could expose employers to legal liability.
- The Bill is yet to have its first reading, and at this stage it is unclear if it will become law.
