The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health has provided new guidelines on drug testing in the workplace.

The guidance reflects amendments to the Act on the Protection of Privacy in Working Life and the Occupational Health Care Act which permit employers to conduct drug tests on employees, process the results, and inform employees of the results.

Overtime, the phrasing of the guidelines has sparked concerns about potential scenarios where drug usage might go undetected and unaddressed as it previously would have been. The Ministry is currently contemplating the necessity of revising these guidelines.

The guidelines can be found in Finnish and Swedish here.
