The Tax Bureau now manages social insurance

• The Tax Bureau is now responsible for collecting social insurance.
• From 1 July 2023, Chongqing, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, and Yunnan have updated their procedures, now requiring employers and employees to directly declare social insurance to the Tax Bureau instead of the social insurance centre. This practice has also been adopted by Beijing, Shanghai, Hainan, and Shanxi.
• HR professionals should familiarise themselves with this change and ensure compliance with social insurance contributions.
• This new method will make it easier for the Tax Bureau to identify any non-compliance in social insurance contributions.
