Enhanced protections for platform workers

At a glance

• In July 2023, the government accepted recommendations by the Tripartite Workgroup to Enhance Representation for Platform Workers.
• The recommendations include creating a framework where platform workers are not classified as employees; requiring companies to provide the same level of work injury compensation insurance as employees; improving housing and retirement protections; and enhancing representation through collective bargaining frameworks.
• The recommendations are expected to be implemented from the second half of 2024.
