Oman extends mandatory sick leave and extraordinary leave insurance to expatriates

From 20 July 2026, expatriate employees in Oman will be required to participate in compulsory sick leave and extraordinary leave insurance schemes under Oman Decision No. 13 of 2026, issued by the Social Protection Fund.

The measure extends insurance coverage to expatriate workers employed across the public and private sectors, including those working within the State Administrative Apparatus, other public legal entities, and private sector establishments. As participation in the scheme will be mandatory, affected employers should ensure they are prepared to comply with the new requirements before the implementation date.
