At a glance
- A government proposal to implement the Gender Pay Transparency Directive (Directive) has been pushed back a number of times, and is now not expected until week commencing 15 June 2026 (having previously been expected in April 2026).
- However, due to the Parliamentary summer break the proposal is unlikely to be considered until later in the year, probably in the autumn.
- This delay to the process means that the domestic legislation implementing the Directive is unlikely to come into force before the end of 2026 at the earliest, and may instead be in early 2027. This is significantly later than the originally planned date of 18 May 2026.
- The government is intending to implement only the minimum requirements of the Directive but it has not yet been agreed between the parties what that means in practice, contributing to the delay.
