On 1 January 2025, the statutory minimum wage in the Netherlands will increase by 2.73%, raising the gross minimum hourly wage for employees aged 21 and older to over EUR14.06 per hour. This adjustment is part of the regular biannual indexation by the government.
A new law which was effective from 1 January 2024 established a uniform minimum hourly wage, replacing the previously prescribed minimum daily, weekly, and monthly wages, eliminating the previous disparity where minimum wage earners working 40 hours per week had a lower hourly wage than those working 36 hours. This is applicable to the 2025 minimum wage.
The Minimum Youth Wage Decree, also effective as of 1 January 2025, sets the minimum hourly wages for employees under 21, aligned with the statutory minimum hourly wage. The rates are as follows:
- EUR14.06 for those aged 21 and older;
- EUR11.25 for 20-year-olds;
- EUR8.44 for 19-year-olds;
- EUR7.03 for 18-year-olds;
- EUR5.55 for 17-year-olds;
- EUR4.85 for 16-year-olds; and
- EUR4.22 for 15-year-olds.
