‘Basic amount’ for calculating certain state benefits increased on 1 May 2024

At a glance

• From 1 May 2023 until 1 May 2024, the ‘basic amount’ used for the Norwegian social security scheme (known as grunnbeløpet or ‘G’) was NOK118,620.
• Following the conclusion of the social security settlement in May 2024, the basic amount was set at NOK124,028 from 1 May 2024. The adjusted basic amount was formally adopted on 24 May 2024.
• The new settlement constitutes an increase in the basic amount of 4.56% from 1 May 2023 to 1 May 2024.
• The basic amount is used, among other things, for the purposes of calculating benefits payable by the Norwegian government including parental benefits and employee sick pay.
